Attention parents of 9th and 10th grade students. The Reading Florida Standards Assessment test starts next week. This is a computer based test that has a listening component in which students need headphones. We encourage each student to bring their own headphones/earbuds to testing. If they do not have headphones or forget to bring them to school on their testing day we will provide headphones for them but I am sure each student would prefer to have their own during testing.
Congratulations to the Pink Robotics team! The team qualified for the World Championships by placing 2nd out of 62 teams in the latest regional competition this past weekend in San Antonio, TX. We had three VHS science research students place in the State Science Fair last week! This is a wonderful accomplishment and represented VHS very well. We are proud of you!
We also just received word that VHS was the only school in the county to have a finalist in the Ying Science Challenge this year! For the past 17 years, Dr. Nelson Ying, in collaboration with the Orlando Science Center, solicits quality science and mathematics projects and their companion papers from outstanding high school students in Brevard, Orange, Osceola, Lake, Marion, Polk, Seminole and Volusia counties. From those submissions, only the five top finalists are selected to present their research to a panel of distinguished experts. These five finalists participate in an all-expenses paid 3-day competition and red-carpet experience in Orlando. They also compete for awards from $1000 to $5000 for themselves, as well as cash awards for their school and teacher.
Congratulations to our World Language students that participated in the Florida State Spanish Conference in Orlando last Thursday and Friday. They did a wonderful job and earned 11 “Outstanding” ratings, 8 “Superior” ratings, and 2 “Excellent” Ratings in impromptus, declamations and dramatic presentations.
