An Important Update from Principal Alba
“Good Evening Viera High School Parents:
Parents with students with IEPs – we need your feedback. Florida’s annual ESE Parent Survey is available online at www.esesurvey.com. Your feedback is important in helping the state and our school district continue improving educational programs for children with special needs.
Attention seniors: The Brevard Schools Foundation Scholarship Applications are now available on the Foundation’s website at www.brevardschoolsfoundation.org. Seniors may go to the website to download forms. Completed applications are due to our guidance office no later than Wednesday, March 18th. Seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for a foundation scholarship since many of the scholarships are open only to Viera High seniors!
Viera High School was represented by two teams at the Regional National Ocean Sciences Bowl. This is an academic team competition that has jeopardy style questions all relating to the oceans. Our “A” team placed 5th out of 16 teams and did so with only one returning team member out of the 5 person team. The students were able to get a tour of Harbour Branch Oceanographic Institute and see a submersible as well as the new ocean turbines that are being tested before being placed in the Gulf Stream. These students practiced together before school twice a week and put it a lot of extra study hours to represent VHS!
This past Friday, VHS hosted its first Dance Marathon to fundraise for the Children’s Miracle Network. It was a huge success due to the hard work and commitment of a core group of VHS students. The event raised over $4200 for this great cause! All the students, parents and community members that attended the event had a great time. It was a perfect way to end the week seeing our VHS students thinking outside of themselves and supporting a wonderful cause. Simply stated – it was AWESOME!
The robotics Pink Team representing VHS, Rockledge, Cocoa Beach and Space Coast competed in a regional competition this past weekend. The team took home the Imagery Award and the Woodie Flowers Award. They certainly represented Brevard Public Schools well at the competition and we wish them success in the future.
Early admissions packets are now available in the guidance office for rising seniors interested in taking all of their senior courses on the Eastern Florida State College campus. Please be aware that students need to have at least a 3.0 cumulative unweighted GPA and qualifying test scores. Please see/contact your student’s counselor with any questions.
All 11th grade students are scheduled to take the ACT on Tuesday, March 17th at 8:45am – 1:15pm. If your student does not have an English class on the Viera High School campus, he/she will need to come to the guidance department no later than Wednesday, March 11th to complete pre-administration ACT paperwork. This is a great deal for the students and their families since this test would cost you $58 if you were to sign up for it on your own! The district has paid for all 11th grade students across the district to take this important college entrance test.
Next Monday, March 9th will begin our Parent Survey window. Parents can go online at http://parentsurvey.brevardschoos.org
The Information gathered on this survey is used by schools and district personnel to guide school improvement. Please take the time to complete this survey starting next week – your feedback is very important to us!
