“Good Afternoon Viera High School Parents

Barnes & Noble is conducting their annual My Favorite Teacher Contest.  This contest provides your student the opportunity to recognize one of their teachers for their dedication and passion for their subject.  Students are asked to write an essay explaining how that teacher influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire them.  Students can find more information on this contest by visiting the Barnes & Noble site:

Registration for the 2015-2016 school year has officially begun!  Students received registration forms for the 2015-2016 school year on Wednesday, February 4th through their first period class.  Students who do not have a 1st period class are able to pick-up registration forms and instructions during lunch in the cafeteria.  Students will be meeting with counselors through their English classes beginning Monday, February 9th – Wednesday, February 18th.  If your student does not have an English class on the VHS campus, then the completed registration form needs to be submitted directly to Guidance by Friday, February 20th.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email your child’s counselor as counselors will be out of the office throughout registration.

Interim grades for the 3rd nineweeks grading period will be posted on Edline next Wednesday, 2/11.

Next Wednesday, 2/11 is also an Early Release Day for the students when students are dismissed from school at 2:15.

Monday February 16th is a student holiday.

Our Army JROTC Drill, Color Guard and Drill Exhibition teams performed well this past Saturday at the Drill Competition hosted by Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School.  Our Female Color Guard placed 1st, our Male/Mix Armed Squad placed 1st, our Female Unarmed Squad placed 1st and our Dual Exhibition rifle team placed 2nd.  Overall our teams placed 3rd in the competition.  Great job Cadets!

Our Hawk Buddies Student Club who support our students with disabilities will be hosting a Donut Dash.  This is a fun 2 mile walk/run on February 14th to help raise money for various activities and projects throughout the year.  Please email Ms. Hummel for more information and how to register for this event.

The Viera High Special Olympics Unified Basketball Team received a Silver medal at the State Special Olympics games this past Saturday.  There was some tough competition and we came within 5 pts of the gold medal team.  This is an impressive achievement considering these students just began playing together for the first time this year.  Great job to all our special athletes!

Our wrestling team will be hosting their only home meet this Monday, 2/9.  This will also be senior night so come on out and support this hard working team!

As announced earlier in the week, our girls’ soccer team will be competing in the FSHAA State Championship Tournament starting this Friday.  The semi-final game is scheduled to start at 10 am at EFSC (behind the King Center).  We are excited to have 8 pep buses heading down to see our girls compete for the state title!  If we win on Friday the championship game will be played on Saturday, 2/7 starting at 12:05 pm at EFSC.

Go Hawks!!”
