Viera High TV expanding seats and offering students pro editing certification
Lots of great things happening for Broadcast TV students including the opportunity to become certified in the latest version of Avid Media Composer 6.0, the same software used to edit the majority of pro films, TV shows, music videos, and commercials today. Following rigorous training and testing this summer with Avid’s lead trainer, TV Teacher Mrs. Sivco, is now an Avid Certified Instructor and is officially authorized by Avid to teach Media Composer. Now that Mrs. Sivco is an ACI, Viera High’s Broadcast TV program is considered an Avid Learning Partner which means that Viera High School is now an official Avid testing center. How cool is that? All this has been made possible by the Career and Technical Education department of Brevard Public Schools under the direction of Mrs. Janice Scholz.
In addition to providing a shot at certification as early as the students’ junior year, there’s more big news for Viera’s Broadcast TV program. The Career and Technical Education Department for Brevard Public Schools has ALSO purchased 18 brand-new, state-of-the-art computers this summer for the editing lab, replacing older machines. The classroom lab now jumps from 20 seats to 25 seats in the class, allowing even more students the chance to learn field production, studio production, and editing.
Want to join the program? Worried you won’t get in next year? Best thing to do is drop Mrs. Sivco an email at sivco.elizabeth@brevardschools.org and let her know. The class is usually scheduled beyond capacity but sometimes there will be an opening. If she knows you’re really interested, she’ll do what she can to get you in. Priority goes to freshmen and sophomores since the certification test doesn’t happen until TV 3 in either the students’ junior or senior year.
